Important vitamins and their benefits

 

Basically, vitamins are micro-nutrients that are important for the regular metabolic functions such as converting carbohydrates and fats into energy and using proteins for repairing injured tissues. There is a total of 13 vitamins and they are divided into 2 categories: water soluble and fat soluble. Fat soluble vitamins store temporarily in fatty tissues and liver but water soluble vitamins such as B-complex and vitamin C quickly eliminate from body through urine. So it required to continuously replenish.

Vitamin A lies in fat-soluble vitamins group and there are various advantages of it. It helps to visualize in dark. It produces pigments in the retina of eye that’s why it is known as retinol. It helps in the growth of tissues and cells of body and also promotes health. Vitamin A also assists in maintenance and formation of healthy skin, teeth, mucous membranes and tissues.

 

Vitamin E

Vitamin E also lies in the category of fat-soluble vitamins and is powerful antioxidant which protects cellular tissues from damage of free-radicals. Free radicals are by-products of energy metabolism which are harmful and contribute to development of cancer and cardiovascular disease. According to research, it is discovered that vitamin E may6 help in preventing specific cancer like breast, prostate and colon. Vitamin E is also useful in boosting immune system, formatting red blood cells and improving brain function.

 

Vitamin D

It is produced by our body due to the exposure of sunlight. It helps in depositing minerals such as phosphorus and calcium in bones and teeth. It also helps in regulating cell growth and cell differentiation and maintaining healthy immune system.

 

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a type of water-soluble vitamin and affects body in various ways. It is important for combining collagen which is an essential protein required for creating scar tissue, blood vessels, ligaments, tendons and skin. It also helps in healing wounds.

 

Vitamin K

Vitamin K is also known as clotting vitamin and a kind of fat-soluble vitamin. Primary responsibility of this vitamin is to regulate blood clotting. Generally, blood clotting takes place because of tear or injury in blood vessel. It also reduces the chances of heart disease and failure.

 

Thiamin

It helps body in creating energy from fats and carbohydrates and lies in the category of B-complex water soluble vitamins. Thiamin is popularly called as Vitamin B1and important for normal development and growth. It helps in proper functioning of digestive system, heart and nervous system.

 

Niacin

It is also B-complex vitamin and plays a significant part in energy metabolism. It helps our body to repair DNA, to produce steroid hormone and to remove harmful toxins. It is very effective to improve cardiovascular circulation and reducing cholesterol levels.

 

Pyridoxine

It is also known as vitamin B6 and lies in the category of water-soluble vitamins. It helps in producing proteins and cell bodies. Vitamin B6 helps in generating white blood cells to fight against infection and in result helps immune system.

 

Vitamin B12

It plays a significant role in the production of healthy nerve cells and red blood cells. It is also required in RNA and DNA replication. It controls homocysteine level of body with the help of folate and vitamin B5.
